For the first of what is hoped is many times, the Austintown library hosted a class for seniors to learn how to use Pinterest on Oct. 17.

“I think we’re going to try it this month,” said adult services librarian Lindsay Platt, who taught the class. “We’re going to see how it goes. We might do it bi-monthly, depending on the demand and if the people start calling and asking for it. A lot of people asked about it. Pinterest, what it is, how to use it. We’ve had a lot of people, seniors, older people, ask about it. We thought we’d have a class and show them how to use it all at once.”

Platt explained what Pinterest is.

“It’s a social media website where you can take pictures and share them,” she said. “You pin them and group pictures together, pictures you have an interest in. Some people use them to plan parties, to plan vacations, different things like that or just for fun.”

Platt said the class would entail her teaching on how to use Pinterest. She said if any of the three attendees wanted to create an account, she would show them at the end of the hour-long class as well as answer any questions they had.

One of the attendees was Ellen Gradoville of Boardman. She said she hoped learning to use Pinterest would make it easier for her to keep things organized.

“I want to learn how to use this,” she said. “I just know that people love it, and I didn’t really know how to do it. When I went online and Googled it, everyone wanted to charge me money to learn how to use it.”

Platt said Pinterest has many uses for those who use it.

“I think it’ll help them to connect with their friends and family that are on it,” she said. “You can also connect it with Facebook. Some people sometimes like to connect it with their Facebook. It depends on what they’re looking to get out of it. Everybody uses it for a different purpose.”
