2 western Pennsylvania ski resorts opening today
CHAMPION, Pa. (AP) — Southwestern Pennsylvania’s two largest ski resorts are celebrating White Friday.
Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Hidden Valley, both in Somerset County, have opened for the season.
Both have taken advantage of colder than normal temperatures to make snow.
Eric Mauck says both resorts have at least 12 inches of snow, with drifts 10 to 12 feet high in some areas.
AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines predicts the season will be a good one because this winter is expected to be colder and snowier than normal.
Two other western Pennsylvania ski resorts are waiting a bit longer to open, however.
Blue Knob All Seasons Resort expects to open for skiing one of the first two weekends in December. Tussey Mountain Ski Area in Boalsburg is shooting for a mid-December opening.
