New Bethel to host Christmas Market Place

YOUNGSTOWN

The Special Project Committee of New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will sponsor its annual Christmas Market Place and Soup and Sandwich Day from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7.

Free ride will show North Side lights

YOUNGSTOWN

For the sixth consecutive year, the Alameda Redondo Neighborhood Association will provide a free bus ride throughout the North Side on Dec. 11 to view Christmas lights.

The bus will depart at 5 p.m. from Heartreach at the corner of Ohio Ave. and Redondo Road.

To register your decorations call 330-747-5170.

Prizes will be awarded. Please light up the night and show the positives on the North Side. Pictures will be taken at the city Christmas tree.

Cookie walk, sales at Bethel Lutheran

Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Ave., will have a cookie walk, soup and craft sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 13.

Homemade Christmas cookies will be $5.50 a dozen, your choice of cookies. Part of the proceeds will support the church’s charities.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is sponsoring the event by donating $1 for every $3 raised.

Ohio Star Quilters elect officers

Karen Miles was elected 2015 president of Ohio Star Quilters during the November meeting at Caf 422.

Serving with her will be Katie Popadak, vice president; Sherri Johnson, secretary; and Peggy Ferenchak, treasurer.

The club’s Christmas party will be Dec. 3. Carol Svelak, coordinator of the “Kid’s Christmas Donations,” reminded members to bring wrapped gifts to the party. This year, 27 children with HIV/AIDS Ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will receive gifts.

For a service project, members donated handmade shrugs to O’Brian Nursing Home in Masury.

Lynn Vastag spoke on the kids’ quilt project set in the summer of 2015. She announced that NEROC presented the club with a grant to help defray the cost of buying quilting supplies and teaching young students the art of quilting.

Sandy O’Malley reported on the 2015 Quilter’s Day Out to be May 6. Ginger Mangle will speak.

Ohio Star Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month at Howland SCOPE Senior Center; first Monday is the business meeting, and the third is a sewing meeting.

Any person wishing to learn the art of quilting may attend as a guest for three sessions before asked to join and pay yearly dues.

Crafters prepare for Small Town Christmas

NORTH GEORGETOWN

Small Town Christmas 2014, a tour of selected crafters and their shops, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Look for the Small Town Christmas House at each stop. Start where you like, and visit all or any of the sites. Pick up your entry card at any stop. Maps are available at the Old Stage Coach Inn.

Collect a stamp on your card at each stop and turn it in for a chance to win a basket filled with items from each crafter, valued at about $100. You must have nine of 11 possible stamps to be eligible to win. View the basket at stop No. 9.

Stops No. 10 and 11 are churches, where dinners will be served for a donation.
