Snow causes Pa. official to lower some speed limits to 45 mph
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A daylong snowstorm is prompting officials to lower the speed limit to 45 mph on portions of interstate highways in northeastern Pennsylvania.
PennDOT said Wednesday the limit was reduced on Interstate 81 between Lebanon County and Scranton, Interstate 80 west of I-81, all of interstates 84 and 380, and route 33 from the Lehigh Valley northward.
A winter storm is dumping several inches of snow along a wide swath of central and northeastern Pennsylvania just as motorists are hitting the highways for the Thanksgiving weekend.
There were reports of numerous accidents on Wednesday, from Lancaster County in the south to the Poconos.
Officials urge drivers against traveling long distances on those roadways, and to come prepared with medicine, food and water if they must venture out for significant distances.
