Serial rapist convicted for 12th time in Ohio

CLEVELAND (AP) — A serial rapist who has been convicted for a 12th time asked a judge to keep him behind bars as long as possible.

Fifty-three-year-old Michael Irby — who told investigators that he raped as many as 25 women — was sentenced Monday in Cleveland to another 11 years in prison on top of the 75 years he’s already serving on previous convictions.

Irby told a Cuyahoga County judge that he should never be released from prison. He’s been there since 1995.

The latest conviction stemmed from a 1994 attack of a woman Irby forced into an abandoned building and raped. The victim has since died, but prosecutors still pursued the case.

DNA from previously untested rape kits recently linked Irby to three more sexual assaults.
