Warren police investigate weekend robberies, burglary

WARREN

In addition to the purported robbery that police say turned deadly on Starlite Drive Saturday, Warren police investigated two other aggravated robberies and an aggravated burglary over the weekend.

A 24-year-old Tod Avenue man reported being robbed of a cell phone on Oak Knoll Avenue SE at 1:30 p.m. Saturday when he met a man there to sell him the phone.

The suspect met the victim on foot and asked to see the phone. After getting the phone, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded “everything.”

The victim said he pushed the suspect, causing the suspect to fall to the ground on the ice and drop the phone and handgun. The victim got in his car and left.

A 21-year-old city woman and 26-year-old city man reported being robbed by two males who each had handguns as they were about to knock on the door of a residence in the 1900 block of Hazelwood Ave. SE at 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

The suspects took a cell phone and a bag containing a pack of cigarettes and $6.

And a 45-year-old Gertrude Street NW, Champion, man was charged with aggravated burglary after he purportedly broke into a former girlfriend’s home and assaulted her at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Elm Hill Drive NW.

James L. Clark was arraigned on the charge Monday in Warren Municipal Court, where bond was set at $75,000, and a not-guilty plea was entered for him.

The victim, 28, said Clark had come to drop off a DVD player, but when he arrived, he had no DVD player, so she asked him to leave.

Instead, he pinned her in a chair, then picked her up and slammed her onto the couch. Police arrested Clark later at his home.
