Man shot, killed during Warren home invasion

WARREN — A resident of Starlite Drive Northwest shot and killed an 18-year-old Southington man who police believe was part of a group of three people committing an aggravated burglary at the Starlite residence.

Trent Hall of Braceville Robinson Road died, apparently of gunshot wounds, at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital following the 10:30 p.m. incident.

The Startlite resident, Benjamin Talanca, 29, suffered a "severe laceration" head injury in the confrontation, police said and went to St. Joseph Health Center for treatment of his injuries, which are non-life-threatening.

Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department said Hall was one of three males who entered the home. In addition to Hall, police have identified a juvenile who was also among the three but who is not in custody, Cole said.

Cole was unable to confirm information discussed by police Saturday on their police radios — that the three suspects sent the juvenile to the door to get Talanca to open the door and that the suspects then "barged in behind the kid and attacked [Talanca] with a power drill."
