Two people were taken to the Mahoning County jail after they fled from police in separate incidents Saturday, reports said.

About 6:55 p.m., police pulled over a car driven by 33-year-old Kendall Morris of Youngstown on the South Side for failing to stop at a stop sign, and he ran away and was caught behind a home in the 500 block of East Boston Avenue.

Reports said Morris threw something away when he ran, and when officers caught up with him, he had a bag of suspected marijuana in his hand. He was arrested on charges of obstructing official business and possession of marijuana and taken to the jail.

Earlier, about 4:45 p.m., police tried to pull over a car driven by 35-year-old Issac Ford of West Hylda Avenue because he had several open suspensions. However, reports said Ford refused to pull over at Princeton and Hudson avenues and instead led officers on a chase through several South Side streets before he pulled into a driveway in the 300 block of Chicago Avenue.

Reports said Ford tried to get out of the car but was ordered to stay inside. Officers then called for backup and arrested Ford on charges of failure to comply along with driving under suspension. Reports said he has several open suspensions on his license.

Ford told officers he did not pull over because he was afraid his car would be towed and his girlfriend needs the car to get to work, reports said. Reports said Ford told police he was afraid if the car was towed, his girlfriend would lose her job.
