Optomec becomes platinum member of America Makes

Optomec, a global supplier of production-grade additive manufacturing systems for 3-D printed metals and printed electronics, recently became a platinum-level member of America Makes — the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII).

The role, which includes a seat on the organization’s governance board, increases Optomec’s participation in the institute, building on the three America Makes contracts the company has won in the past year.

Chamber business breakfast planned

COLUMBIANA

The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 5 in the Dutch Haus Restaurant.

The chamber invited Christine Williams, bureau of workers’ compensation regional business consultant, from the Youngstown service office, to address the upcoming changes to the billing system, effective dates and updates from the BWC office.

The cost for chamber members is $10 per person; nonmember cost is $15 per person.

Joint apprenticeship, training program

NEW ALEXANDRIA, PA.

The Western Pennsylvania Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program will accept applications for the apprenticeship in the heavy equipment operators program and the mechanic technicians program for the upcoming year.

Applicants can apply to one or both programs, but can only enroll in one.

Qualifications include: must be 18 at time of enrollment; reside in one of the 33 counties of Western Pennsylvania, or in the Mahoning Valley for a minimum of six months; have a high school diploma or GED; a valid Pennsylvania or Ohio driver’s license; submit a nonrefundable $25 fee; pass a drug test and physical and have access to transportation.

Applications can be downloaded at www.wpaoperators.org or picked up in person between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Operating Engineers Local 66 office at 291 McClurg Road, Boardman.
