Mike Love has book deal; memoir due in ’16

NEW YORK

Mike Love, a founding member of the Beach Boys and lead singer on such hits as “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Little Deuce Coupe,” has a book deal.

Love has an agreement with Blue Rider Press for “Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy.” Blue Rider, an imprint of Penguin Random House, told The Associated Press last week that the memoir is scheduled for a 2016 release. It will come out, appropriately, during the summer.

According to Blue Rider, the 73-year-old Love will open up about the band and his “complex” relationship with Brian Wilson, Love’s cousin and the Beach Boys’ leader during their peak years in the 1960s.

Mo’ne Davis memoir due out in March

NEW YORK

A memoir when you’re still a teenager may seem a little premature, but not for Mo’ne Davis, the first female pitcher to win a Little League World Series game.

Publisher Harper Collins told The Associated Press last week that “Mo’ne Davis: Remember My Name” will be released in March by HarperCollins Children’s Books.

The honor roll student from Philadelphia became a sensation after leading the Taney Dragons to a 4-0 victory over Nashville, when she was just 13.

Known for her long braids and uncommon poise, she has since appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and thrown out the first pitch at a major league World Series game.

In September, she donated her jersey to the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

New Franzen novel coming in September

NEW YORK

Jonathan Franzen has a new novel coming — just five years after his previous one.

Publisher Farrar, Straus & Giroux announced last week that Franzen’s “Purity,” a multigenerational story that spans the globe, will come out in September 2015.

Franzen is known for the million sellers and Oprah Winfrey picks “Freedom” and “The Corrections,” both of which took nearly a decade to complete.

“The Corrections” won the National Book Award in 2001.
