Christmas for children fundraiser scheduled

POLAND

On Saturday, Lighting the Way Foundation will sponsor Christmas for the Children fundraiser and sign-up for Christmas help at Bethel Evangelical Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Road.

Registration for Christmas aid will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those seeking help must provide photo identification, proof of income and birth certificates for each child from newborn to 18 years old.

Proof that teens are in school also is requested.

A basket auction, bake sale and handmade jewelry sale will be from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be baskets and gift certificates to be raffled. Those who take a new toy will receive auction tickets.

Shrine Club plans Chili Cook-Off

NORTH LIMA

Youngstown Shrine Club, 1735 W. South Range Road, will host its annual Chili Cook-Off during the Ohio State vs. Michigan football game Saturday in the club’s indoor hall.

Tailgating starts two hours before kickoff. There will be door prizes, food and refreshments. Take your favorite chili for the tasting contest.

The price is $25 per person, and tickets can be bought in advance at Chalet Premier in North Lima or by calling Jim Hazlett at 330-533-1847. Tickets also will be available at the door.

S&T management luncheon is planned

CANFIELD

The 36th annual Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co.’s management Christmas luncheon will take place Dec. 12 at Tippecanoe Country Club.

It will begin with cocktails at 11:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 12:30 p.m. The luncheon committee consists of Mary Lou Green, Mary Harper, Walter Ibele, Bill Leskovec, Lee Sandstrom and Lou DeSimone.

All former general office and plant management personnel are welcome. Reservations are due Dec. 5 with Leskovec at 330-799-4853. The cost is $21.95 per person, and guests are welcome.

Pizza challenge set at Eastwood Expo

Warren Rotary Club is hosting “Slice of the Valley: First Annual Valley Pizza Challenge” from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Jan.17 at the Eastwood Expo Center.

Attendees and celebrity judges will vote for the best pizza in the Valley, with the People’s Choice and Judges Choice awards going to the winning pizza shops.

Proceeds will help make improvements at Warren Interfaith Park.

The event will include a pizza-eating contest, basket and silent auctions, music and a 50-50 raffle.

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 and under. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
