Poland McKinley student wins Lions poster contest

Lions International sponsors a Peace Poster contest each year to promote peace in the world.

The Poland Lions, a member of the international Organizations and club of Ohio District 13-D, recently accepted posters for this contest. The theme for the 2014 contest was Peace, Love and Understanding.

Ashley Ray, a sixth-grade student at Poland McKinley Elementary, won the contest. Other students who submitted posters in the competition were Brittany Gulling, Alexandria Quinones and Maria Schwartz, who will receive letters of recognition for their posters.

District 13-D is comprised of 52 clubs from the five counties of Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Stark and Prtage. Ray’s winning poster will now advance to the state level, where it will compete with entries from each of the Ohio Lions districts. Should she win at the state level, her poster will advance to the international level. She will then have the chance to visit the United Nations to present her message of peace.
