Meckeses’ 60th marked with surprise party

Robert (Eddie) and Ann Marie (Dolly) Meckes of Girard marked their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise party Aug. 9 at the home of their granddaughter and her husband, Shannon and Chuck Eddy III, in Canfield.

Hosting the party were their daughters, Nina (Frank) Davis of Girard, and Robin (Tom) Eastek of Columbiana. The couple have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Meckes were married Aug. 7, 1954, at St. Rose Church, where they are members.

Mr. Meckes was a baker for 25 years for Poulakos Bakery until it closed. He then worked in maintenance for 15 years at the YWCA in Youngstown. He is a Korean War Army veteran and served two years. He volunteered for the LPGA for 15 years and was a volunteer for other organizations.

Mrs. Meckes retired from Packard Electric in Warren, where she worked for more than 24 years. She enjoys crafts, knitting and crocheting and playing cards.
