Cuyahoga County prosecutor gets help for rape DNA backlog
CLEVELAND (AP) — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a new investigative support and grant funding that will help prosecutors process the backlog of rape DNA kits.
The help will be available to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office as it works through a backlog of rape kits that need DNA testing to try to identify suspects.
The state has been testing thousands of rape kits submitted by law enforcement agencies all over Ohio to seek DNA matches that could help solve reported sexual assaults.
In Cuyahoga County, prosecutors have generated more than 200 indictments due to the testing.
