Dana School of Music Carols and Cocoa: 7 p.m. Dec. 3, Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Carols and Cocoa will be performed in the Ballroom and will feature seasonal favorites, culminating in a holiday sing-along. Dana students bring cookies to share, and complimentary cocoa will be available. Featured groups are: Trombone Ensemble, Dana Clarinet Ensemble, Dana Early Music Ensemble, Dana Flute Ensemble, University Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Dana Chorale and the Stambaugh Chorus. After an intermission, guests are invited upstairs to the Concert Hall where the Dana Holiday Concert will be presented featuring selections from Handel’s “Messiah” and three holiday songs from “Home Alone” by John Williams, plus other holiday standards. “Messiah” selections will be performed by the Dana Symphonic Choir, Stambaugh Chorus and Dana Symphony Orchestra with guest soloists Misook Yun, soprano, and Thomas Scurich, bass. The high-school guest ensemble is the Boardman High School Chorale. Additionally, the Dana Brass Quintet, YSU Jazz Ensemble I and the Dana Symphony Orchestra will perform. Soloists include Joseph Kromholz, violin, and Cicilia Yudha, piano. Organist Kathy Davison Miller will provide an organ postlude on Stambaugh’s E. M. Skinner pipe organ. Youngstown Holiday Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting: 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5, downtown Youngstown. Activities begin at 4:30 at 20 Federal Place and Central Square with food, holiday vendors, caroling and entertainment; a Federal Street parade at 5:30 with the arrival of Santa and street vendors; and a Federal Square tree lighting at 6:30. Pictures with Santa will be at Central Square and 20 Federal after his arrival.
