Columbiana GOP looking for county judge candidates
LISBON
The Columbiana County Republican Party is seeking applicants to succeed Municipal Court Judge Carol Ann Robb, who will resign in February for a seat on the 7th District Court of Appeals.
Though there isn’t a deadline to submit a resume and letter of interest, county Republican Chairman Dave Johnson said applicants should provide that information by early December, and send it to: County Republican Chairman, P.O. Box 73, Summitville, OH 43962.
“We like to have the names of three recommended replacements to the governor by the first of January,” Johnson said.
Those interested in being considered must also fill out a 17-page questionnaire.
A three-member committee — Adam Booth, the party’s vice chairman and county board of elections director; county Auditor Nancy Milliken; and James Armeni, the Ohio auditor’s regional liaison, and former Salem auditor, council president and city councilman — will interview candidates and review the written documentation submitted by the applicants. That committee will recommend three names to the party’s central and executive committees, which will then vote on the recommended candidates.
Three candidates have already expressed interest in the job, said Johnson, who declined to give their names.
Judge Robb was re-elected to a second six-year term in November 2013 to the municipal court bench. Her term expires Jan. 1, 2020. She plans to step down from her current job in early February as her six-year term on the 7th District Court of Appeals begins Feb. 9.
Based on timing, it’s quite likely Gov. John Kasich, a Republican, would appoint Judge Robb’s successor before she resigns.
The person chosen would have to run for the rest of Judge Robb’s unexpired term in the November 2015 general election, Johnson said.
Judge Robb beat Youngstown Deputy Law Director Anthony Donofrio by 6 percentage points in the Nov. 4 general election for the eight-county court of appeals position.
