Boardman Park announces Christmas calendar of events

Boardman Park announces its slate of Christmas events, including Senior Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 4 and 18.

Among activities planned are exercising, crafts, blood pressure screening, lunch and bingo in the Lariccia Family Community Center. The cost is $1.

Boardman’s Community Christmas will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7.

Participants can take natural decorations and adorn one of the park’s pine trees. Suggestions are pine cones covered in peanut butter, birdseed, cereal/popcorn strings, bagels or orange slices.

Santa will arrive by firetruck at 4:20.

Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate at St. James Meeting House while listening to Christmas music and caroling led by Tom Ruggieri and Linda Smrek and the Boardman High School Band, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The lighting of the community Christmas tree will take place at 4:45.

All activities are free and will take place near the gazebo and St. James. Donations of canned goods for Second Harvest Food Bank will be collected.

From Dec. 7 through Jan. 5, the park is a winter wonderland for the holidays with more than 15 elaborate light displays. The display is free and open every night from 5 to 10 p.m. Tune in to 88.9 FM to enjoy music with the lights.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 and 11, Supper With Santa is available. A professional picture with Santa is included in the fee. The cost is $7 per Boardman resident and $9 for nonresidents. It’s free for kids 2 and under. Buy tickets at the park office. No tickets will be sold at the door.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 and 17, Santa’s Calling. The park will assist Santa with a direct line from the North Pole to the community. Parents who would like their children, ages 3 to 8, to receive a phone call can pick up a form at the park office, 375 Boardman Poland Road, or it can be downloaded from the park website, www.boardmanpark.com. Completed forms should be returned to the park office, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, or faxed to 330-726-4562.

The deadline is Dec. 15. He will make only one call to each family, so it is important that you are home during the scheduled time. There is no fee for the call.

On Dec. 20 will be the Elegant String Quartet Holiday Concert from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in St. James Meeting House. Holborn Herb Growers will decorate the church with handmade items.

Dec. 22 is the time to make Cookies for Santa from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children and parents can enjoy making cut-out cookies, holiday waffles, decorating their masterpieces, crafts and more. The cost is $5 per Boardman resident child and $7 per nonresident child. Buy tickets at the park. No tickets will be sold at the door.
