CANFIELD

Canfield Township trustees approved a new lighting district and a purchase for a security camera for its public-works building.

Officials unanimously approved the installation of two lampposts on Fox Den Court. That cost, $2,300, will be divided amongst the homeowners on that street. From there, the monthly cost of $134.76 will be split amongst the homeowners on the street.

Fiscal officer Carmen Heasley said of the lights for the street, “It could go up pretty quickly.”

Trustees also approved the purchase of a security camera for its public-works facility on Messerly Road for $1,441.38.

Trustee Marie Cartwright said that “obviously, we’re doing this for security reasons.” She also noted that they decided to do this because of the increase in rock salt prices this year.

Township officials also lowered the public-works fund by $23,000 because the culvert project on Pheasant Run Drive came in that much under budget.

Cartwright updated work that has been done at Dean Hill Cemetery. That cemetery had filled up before the township worked with the Mahoning County Engineer’s Office to plot land that hadn’t been laid out yet in the spring. She had been concerned with tree limbs at the historic cemetery in the township.

“Most of those trees have been taken down, so the headstones are in good shape,” said Cartwright.

She also said that the township is working with the Ohio Department of Transportation on informing residents about construction work set for U.S. Route 224 in Canfield.

Cartwright said the project has been pushed back to March, but had been set to start this month.
