Twenty-four-year-old Leslie Brown was convicted of second-degree murder, robbery and other charges in Allegheny County in the death of 53-year-old Michael Stepien. The father of two was killed in an alley in Swissvale in September 2006.

Brown was 16 at the time of the slaying but wasn’t arrested for three years. He appealed to the state Superior Court last year following a federal court ruling striking down mandatory life sentences for juvenile offenders.
