Lawyer: 'No real question' 10-year-old Pa. boy killed woman

PLEASANT MOUNT, Pa. (AP) — The lawyer for a jailed 10-year-old Pennsylvania boy says there’s “no real question” the boy beat a 90-year-old woman to death.

Wayne County Chief Public Defender Scott Bennett said today he’s working to get him needed mental health help.

Bennett spoke to reporters after waiving the boy’s preliminary hearing. He says he wants the case moved to juvenile court.

The boy is charged as an adult with criminal homicide in the Oct. 11 death of Helen Novak at the home of his grandfather, Novak’s caretaker.

Authorities allege he lost his temper when she yelled at him, held her down with a cane and punched her.

The boy is held without bail at Wayne County’s jail. He’s being kept from the general population.

A formal arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 10.
