Holiday safety tips

The American Red Cross offers Thanksgiving safety tips for traveling and cooking.
Travelers should check the weather along their route and plan for travel around any storms that may be coming.
In the kitchen, cooks should avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves; never leave the stove unattended and turn it off when they leave the kitchen; and keep children and pets away from the cooking area.
People can download the Red Cross First Aid App to have information at their fingertips if an emergency occurs; and find out more about all Red Cross apps at redcross.org/apps.
Ryan reappointed
WASHINGTON
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland was reappointed to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, a leadership committee tasked with assigning party members to House committees and advising the Democrats on policy.
Ryan, D-13th, has served on the committee since 2006, and Tuesday’s appointment assures he will remain on the appropriations and the budget committees.

Lottery winner

A Youngstown resident is the latest winner of the Ohio Lottery’s Rolling Cash 5 game.
Carolyn Averhart won $110,000 after she matched all five numbers drawn in the Nov. 12 drawing.
After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, Averhart receives $78,100.
She purchased the winning ticket using auto lotto at Sunny Mart, 180 W. Indianola Ave. Sunny Mart receives a $500 agent bonus for selling a five-of-five Rolling Cash 5 ticket.
Stolen while warming
AUSTINTOWN
A car was reported stolen Monday morning from a residence as its owner left the car running with the keys in it.
The car was reported stolen 7:14 a.m. after the owner began warming up the car in the 4600 block of Deer Creek Court at 6:50 a.m.
Stolen from driveway
STRUTHERS
An Eighth Street resident started his green 2002 Jeep Liberty in his driveway at 12:40 p.m. Monday, went into his home for few minutes, and when he returned outside, his vehicle was gone, he told police.
Police said they are looking for the vehicle and the suspected thief.
Police said if you see the vehicle with the license plate number DNJ8157, call police at 330-755-9849.
Meetings canceled

Art sale postponed

The YWCA Early Bird Art Sale, previously scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed. The new dates for the sale are March 14-15.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase lighting for the Women Artists annual art exhibition.
New payment option
LISBON
Columbiana County Auditor Nancy Milliken announced a new payment option has been added to allow for credit- and debit-card transactions using MasterCard, Visa, or Discover cards for county dog license renewals.
The new system will be available beginning Dec. 1 through Jan. 31.
The electronic payments will be accepted only online and at the Columbiana County auditor’s office, 105 S. Market St.
Electronic payments will not be accepted at the outside vendors or the dog warden’s office.
A convenience fee will be tacked on for using a credit or debit card. The fee will be $1 for debit and credit-card transactions of less than $42. If the payment exceeds that amount, a 2.39 percent fee will be assessed.
The website www.columbianacountydoglicense.com will be up and running for credit- and debit-card transactions Dec. 1.

ValleyCare Health Systems of Ohio is inviting the public to learn more about the second enrollment for affordable health insurance available on the Health Insurance Marketplace.
Free information sessions will be:
4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.
5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library Howland Branch, 9095 E. Market St.
The presentations will address the marketplace and Medicaid expansion.
Felony robbery charge
NILES
John P. Kellar, 39, of various addresses in Warren and Niles, was arraigned Monday in Niles Municipal Court on a felony robbery charge in a robbery about a month ago at the Sears store in Eastwood Mall.
Niles police received help from their Facebook followers in identifying Kellar after the department posted a surveillance photo of the man committing the robbery.
Police said the suspect also fought with Sears employees trying to detain him.
Kellar was charged Nov. 7, but was not taken into custody until Monday when Weathersfield police arrested him.
No plea was entered, but John Gargano, acting judge, set bond at $5,000.
Ayers St. shooting
youngstown
City police are investigating a report of shots fired at an East Side home.
Police found shell casings at the house in the 100 block of Ayers Street.
No one was injured, police said.
