METRO DIGEST || Youngstown Christmas tree arrives Thursday

YOUNGSTOWN

The city’s 2014 Christmas tree has been chosen. The blue spruce is being donated by Craig Tareshawty, owner of Brandywine Apartments, 3390 Flo Lo Drive. Diamond Steel Construction Co. will donate its time and equipment to assist the city’s Department of Parks & Recreation staff in removing and transporting the tree to Central Square downtown. The tree is scheduled to arrive at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday.

Taking applications

POLAND

The Poland Township trustees are accepting applications for the township’s zoning appeals and zoning commission boards.

Individuals interested must live in the township’s unincorporated area.

Mail or deliver a letter of interest and statement of qualifications to the Poland Township Trustees, 3339 Dobbins Road, Poland, OH 44514, on or before Dec. 12.

Candidate for sheriff

WARREN

Joseph O’Grady, a retired sergeant with the Warren Police Department, will announce his candidacy for Trumbull County sheriff at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Trumbull County Courthouse. Sheriff Thomas Altiere still has two years left on his current term in office, but O’Grady and several others have expressed an interest in running for the position in 2016. O’Grady worked 28 years for the Warren Police Department and led the effort to create David Grohl Alley in honor of the Warren-born musician.
