A stretch of highway in Mahoning County would be named in memory of two local servicemen, and a bridge would be designated to honor a longtime Austintown fire chief, under separate bills being considered in the Ohio Senate.
Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, submitted sponsor testimony for both Tuesday to the chamber’s transportation committee.
SB 357 would designate Interstate 76 between its intersection with I-80 and State Route 11 as the Marine Sgt. James Prommersberger and Army Lt. Charles W. Brown Memorial Highway.
The Vietnam veterans, both Austintown Fitch graduates, were killed in action.
SB 360, meanwhile, would designate the I-80 bridge over Meander Creek Reservoir as the Fire Chief Andrew R. Frost Jr. Bridge.
Frost served the Austintown Fire Department for 46 years, including 27 as chief, before retiring. He currently serves as public safety services coordinator at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
