Douglas Sweeney, dealer at Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC in Youngstown, was recently nominated for the 2015 TIME Dealer of the Year Award. This nomination recognizes him as one of the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrates a long-standing commitment to local community service in your town. Sweeney is one of a select group of nominees who will be honored at the 98th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) convention in January 2015.

A 1973 graduate of Poland Seminary High School in Poland, Ohio, Sweeney earned a B.S. in business management from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1977. After college, he returned to Youngstown and the family dealership, State Chevrolet, which opened on the day Sweeney was born in 1955. The dealership is a third-generation family business. Sweeney donates to the United Way, serves on the board of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce, Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic and Youngstown State University Foundation, and is on the advisory council for Akron Children’s Hospital. He has also lent his time and talent to the American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley, American Cancer Society golf tournament and the American Heart Association Heart Walk, to name a few. Sweeney regularly donates to charities and team sports throughout the Mahoning Valley.
