University student charged in death of ex-student

EDINBORO, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a northwestern Pennsylvania state university student has been arrested in the shooting death of a former student outside an off-campus apartment complex.

The Erie Times-News reports that 21-year-old Trey Gunter was arraigned this afternoon in Monday night’s shooting death of 22-year-old Tobiah Johnson near Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

The school was locked down for about four hours after the shooting, which authorities allege followed a dispute over a stolen gun.

About 2,000 students live on the Edinboro campus, about 20 miles south of Erie and 110 miles north of Pittsburgh. The university was hosting a basketball game when the lockdown was ordered.

Gunter was ordered held without bail pending a Dec. 2 preliminary hearing.
