Charged in threats

A township man is scheduled for arraignment today in Mahoning County Area Court here on charges of aggravated menacing and making domestic-violence threats after police said he threatened his soon-to-be ex-wife with a gun.

According to a police report, Philip DeRobbio, 35, of Melrose Avenue, pointed a handgun at the victim after they got into an argument Friday about their pending divorce.

The victim ran away from DeRobbio.

DeRobbio is free on bond.

Drug-related charges

A township man is scheduled for arraignment today in Mahoning County Area Court here on several drug-related charges.

Police arrested Robert Littrell III on Friday after they obtained a search warrant for his Terrace Drive residence and found drugs and drug paraphernalia there, according to a police report.

Officers found marijuana pipes, about $5,000 in cash, pills, marijuana, a glass bong, a plastic bag containing white residue, ammunition and other drug paraphernalia.

Littrell is charged with felony counts of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of a juvenile and possession of dangerous drugs. He also is charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Home burglary

Township police are investigating a burglary in which about $10,000 worth of property was taken from a residence in the 8500 block of Ivy Hill Drive.

The victims told police they left the state for a family emergency at the end of September and returned Thursday to find a safe, $7,250 worth of jewelry, credit cards and $2,500 in cash missing from their home, according to a police report filed Friday.

They told police the alarm was not set when they left. Police did not find any signs of forced entry.

Assault at store

BOARDMAN

Township police are investigating a case of assault after two people purportedly got into a fight at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, on Saturday.

According to a police report, a man told police he asked a woman to move her shopping cart, at which point he said she became aggressive and grabbed him by his jacket.

The man told police he then slapped the woman to get her off him. After moving away from the woman, he said, she came up behind him and kicked him. She then grabbed his arm and bit it, he said.

Other shoppers broke up the fight, according to the report. The woman had to be taken to a hospital for a heart problem.

Store employees gave police video surveillance so police can determine who was the primary aggressor.

Boil-water notice

Due to a waterline break Monday, water customers on Bedford Road between Stewart-Sharon Road and Addison Road in the township are advised to boil their water for consumption until further notice.

The East High School Garden Club has been selected to receive a Youngstown CityScape Eighth Annual Beautification Watch Award. The award is presented to those who have taken the time to clean, green and care for an area in the city.

A light hors d’oeuvres reception and awards presentation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Avenue. CityScape is a grass- roots organization dedicated to revitalizing Youngstown’s downtown and gateways through beautification, education and preservation. The awards will be presented in five categories: Corporate/Business, Institution, Individual, Neighborhood Group and Youth.

Park roads closed

YOUNGSTOWN

Effective immediately, these roads in Mill Creek Park will be closed to vehicular traffic for the winter: Chestnut Hill Drive between Canfield Road and the Kirkmere Spur; High Drive between the Kirkmere Spur and West Cohasset Drive; and Calvary Run Drive between Belle Vista Avenue and Milton Avenue.

These roads are available for recreational use for hiking, cross-country skiing and sledding.

All roads will reopen in the spring when weather permits, park officials said.

Child Safety Day set

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield police and fire departments will participate in a Child Safety Day from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at Seaborn Elementary, 3800 Niles Carver Road.

The police department will be hosting a stranger-danger presentation, and the fire department will host a safety presentation.

Memory screening

From 1 to 4 p.m. today and Thursday, Youngstown State University’s departments of Gerontology and Nursing will offer free, confidential memory screenings as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

Struthers school board

STRUTHERS

The Struthers Board of Education plans to discuss the purchase of a $23,000 Ford F-250 truck for the plowing and maintenance of its schools at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. today, in addition to contract discussions. The meeting will take place in the board of education office at 99 Euclid Ave.

Joseph Nohra, Struthers superintendent, said the school district had three trucks last winter to help with school maintenance, but one truck broke down in the spring and was auctioned. Nohra said the school’s other two trucks are in great working condition.

Strip club robbed

AUSTINTOWN

A township strip club was robbed early Sunday after a man fired shots into the air.

According to a police report, The Babylon, 114 Javit Court, was robbed at 3:49 a.m. Sunday after a man wearing a ski mask and a hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants entered the business. He fired two shots in the air and then fired a third shot, but no one was injured. He took money from the register, but the amount of that money was unknown Monday.

Extension programs

The OSU Extension office in Canfield will be offering programs this week and in early December.

A few spots still are available for a Northeast Ohio Vegetable School program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Intersection improved

WARREN

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Monday at the intersection of Elm Road and North River Road Northeast to celebrate the completion of a $500,000 improvement project.

The intersection was identified as having the highest accident rate in the county for intersections of two county roads, said Gary Shaffer with the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office.

Elm Road was widened so that the lanes of travel lined up better. Storm drains and curbs also were improved to improve stormwater drainage.

A paving project farther east on North River Road also is nearly complete. It included removal of trees on the south side of North River and installation of storm-water catch basins and pipe. Sidewalks will be added in 2016.

Stadium project gift

The Rotary Club of Boardman has committed $10,000 to the Spartan Stadium Project, the goal of which is to build a new sports stadium on the high school’s campus for the 2015-16 school year.

The Rotary Club will present the stadium committee with a check today at noon at the Lariccia Center in Boardman Park.

Memorial fund

A memorial fund has been established for the McCullough Family at Huntington Bank. People can make donations at any Huntington branch by informing the teller they want the deposit directed to the Faith McCullough Family Fund. Faith McCullough-Wooster, 14, a freshman at East High School, was killed last week when a school bus struck her on her way home from school.

A candlelight vigil is being planned for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial on East High Avenue.
