Event marks schools’ academic achievement

The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education recognized 32 school districts from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties for earning an “A” in one of several categories on the most recent state report card.

The fifth annual “Excellence in Education — Celebrating our Schools” took place at Leo’s Ristorante. The districts were recognized for receiving an A in Value Added, Performance Index and/or Standards Met on the Ohio Department of Education Report Card.

Maplewood and Canfield school districts received a special recognition, sponsored by Kent State University at Trumbull, for receiving “A’s” in all three categories.

The Partnership and Turning Foundation (Turning Technologies) also recognized Randall Rodik, a music and band teacher at Leetonia High School with a Turning Technologies Clicker System. Jack Reppart, a technology teacher at McGuffey K-8 School in Warren was the runner-up, winning an Apple iPad.

Christina Mullane, Springfield; Christine Chludzinski and David Guy, both of Lisbon; Nicholas Glatzer, Campbell; Tiffany N. Harris, Youngstown; Kelly Hutchinson, Warren; Brittany Krestel, Boardman; and Eric Sampson, Southern, each was awarded an Innovative Teacher Mini-grant from the Foundation.

Cash awards of up to $1,500 were available for creative and innovative classroom projects that also included collaboration with other teachers and/or community members. The Raymond John Wean Foundation also provided support for the grant competition.

The 2014 Excellence in Education sponsors are The Dominion Foundation, Youngstown State University, Kent State University at Trumbull, Turning Foundation, Huntington Bank, Packer Thomas, Stifel, State Support Team – Region 5, Farmer’s Trust Co., and Eastern Gateway Community College.
