ATHENS

A fire has damaged several buildings near Ohio University’s campus, displacing several dozen students, causing power outages and closing some streets.

According to a statement from the city of Athens, the fire broke out along Union Street at 4:10 a.m. Sunday. Authorities evacuated part of the street, including apartments above businesses.

The city says no serious injuries have been reported, though three firefighters, a police officer and a resident have been taken to a local hospital. The statement gave no details on their conditions.

Three other residents were treated and released.

Ohio University says about 40 students were displaced by the fire, and many are being temporarily housed in local hotels.

The city says cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and power is expected to be restored later Sunday.
