2 hurt in shooting in Idora neighborhood

Two people were taken immediately into surgery at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where they were taken by ambulance after being shot at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday on McFarland Avenue on the city’s South Side, police said.

Detectives were called out to investigate the shooting, which occurred in the Idora neighborhood near Mill Creek Park. No suspects are in custody.

Graduates to display artworks in exhibit

Works from 18 Youngstown State University students graduating this fall with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts are featured in the Fall Graduating BFA Show opening Friday, in the McDonough Museum of Art on Wick Avenue.

An opening reception for the artists willtake place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; the exhibit will remain on view through Dec. 13.

The show celebrates the work of students in graphic + interactive design, painting, photography, interdisciplinary studies and 3D studies. Students participating in the exhibition are Zehra Alikhan, Crystal Beiersdorfer, Chad Campagna, Tina Cascarelli, Sarah DelliQuadri, Brittany Dowd, Lizzy Gibbs, Christy Hartman, Calla Hierro, Henry Holden III, Rebecca S. List, Corin Miller, Alexandra Pasula, Becca Porter, Jacob P. Snyder, Douglas Starr, Brandi Takas and Nick Wolf.

Soil-health seminar

The last in the Trumbull Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District’s soil-health-seminar series will be given twice Friday at the SWCD offices, 520 W. Main St. The sessions will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. The workshop is for anyone interested in soil and soil testing. Backyard conservation manuals will be provided to all participants.
