Mount Union 31, John Carroll 24

ALLIANCE

No. 3 ranked Mount Union won the Ohio Athletic Conference by holding off sixth-ranked John Carroll in the regular-season finale in front of a stadium record crowd 9,397 at Mount Union Stadium. Mount Union running back Bradley Mitchell scored his second rushing touchdown of the game — an 8-yarder with 1:12 left — to give the Purple Raiders the lead and the defense held as the Blue Streaks drove all the way to the Mount Union seven-yard-line before time expired. The Purple Raiders won their 23rd straight and 26th overall Ohio Athletic Conference as they extended their regular season win streak to 93 games and home field win streak to 80 games. John Carroll rallied from a 24-7 halftime deficit with 17 unanswered points to tie the game at 24 with 3:17 to play. Mount Union QB Kevin Burke finished with 320 yards of Mount Union’s 397 yards of total offense as he threw for 258 and ran for a team-high 62. The Raiders claim the OAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs while John Carroll looks for one of six national at-large bids. The selections will be announced online at 6 p.m. today at NCAA.com.

Waynesburg 31, Washington & Jefferson 28, OT

WAYNESBURG, PA.

The Presidents’ hopes of a perfect 10-0 season were dashed in overtime in the 42nd edition of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Backyard Brawl. Scott Lewis’ 34-yard field goal was the game winner for the Yellow Jackeys (8-2, 6-2). The Presidents are 9-1, 7-1 PAC, and await today’s announcement of the Division III playoff pairings. Trailing 28-21 with 2:01 left in regulation, W&J quarterback Pete Coughlin engineered an 11-play, 95-yard drive in 1:19 to force overtime, hitting Max Creighan with a 28-yard touchdown pass. Coughlin completed 29-of-44 passes for 293 yards and two scores with no interceptions, but he was sacked three times. Creighan caught 10 of the passes for 96 yards while Daniel Lis made nine receptions for 95 yards. Ryan Torrance led the Presidents’ defense with 10 tackles (eight solo) and a pick-six. He also added a tackle for loss, one of five on the day for W&J. Tim Blair, Alec Schram and Jared Pratt each made seven tackles, with Schram posting three pass break-ups and Pratt a TFL and interception.

Hiram 35, Oberlin 13

HIRAM

Quarterback Robert Partridge ran for a touchdown and passed for another as the Terriers beat the Yeomen to clinch a .500 season. Hiram (5-5, 4-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) intercepted three Oberlin passes and recovered a fumble. Terriers linebacker James Romanowski returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown and led Hiram with 11 tackles.

Michigan Tech 59, Lake Erie 14

HOUGHTON, MICH.

The No. 20-ranked Huskies built up a 41-7 halftime lead and cruised in the regular season finale today. Lake Erie came in averaging 33 points and 477 yards of offense. The Storm gained 393 yards. A big factor was the Tech’s defense limiting LEC to 3-for-15 on third down and 1-for-9 on fourth down. The Storm’s Anthony Bilal scored a 75-yard touchdown. Lake Erie (4-7, 3-7 GLIAC) was led by Bilal’s 270 yards rushing on 27 carries. Michigan Tech (9-1 overall, 9-1 GLIAC) finished one game back of Ferris State (11-0, 10-0 GLIAC) for the GLIAC North Division title.

Ferris State 46, Walsh 42

CANTON

Quarterback Jason Vander Laan capped a 10-play, 63-yard yard drive with a 1-yard keeper with 36 seconds left as the Bulldogs beat the Cavaliers. Vander Laan ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns and was 18 of 27 for 260 yards and two more TDs for Ferris State (11-0). Walsh (4-7) led 21-10, 28-17 and 35-24, but couldn’t pull off the upset on the road.

Northwood 41, Malone 17

MIDLAND, MICH.

Vashon Nutt ran for two touchdowns and finished with 81 yards on just eight carries as the Timberwolves beat the Pioneers. Malone (1-10, 1-9 GLIAC) lost a fumble and threw two interceptions, one of which was returned by Michael Fisher of Northwood (5-6, 4-7). Matt Blasiole ran for 104 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for Malone.

Thiel 42, Grove City 21

GROVE CITY, PA.

Tomcats quarterback Ryan Radke ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns and completed 14 of 23 passes for 166 yards and another score as Thiel (4-6, 3-5 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) kept Grove City (0-10, 0-8) winless. Cody McClelland returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown for the Tomcats, who forced three turnovers. Thiel won easily despite fumbling eight times and losing two of them.

Saint Francis, Pa. 40, Robert Morris 7

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA.

Khairi Dickson ran for 189 yards and Saint Francis scored 40 unanswered points to rout Robert Morris and claim its first three-game win streak since 1992, the final year before joining Division I in 1993. Dickson had 34 carries, and scored a 1-yard touchdown to make it 34-7 in the third quarter for the Red Flash (5-5, 3-2 Northeast Conference). Dickson now holds the record for most yards in a single season at Saint Francis (1,650 yards), previously held by Kyle Harbridge with 1,619 yards. Justin Kempka caught a 3-yard pass from Luke Brumbaugh for a Robert Morris TD, making it 7-0 with 9:57 left in the first quarter. Ryan Thermil rushed for 100 yards for the Colonials (1-9, 1-4).

Westminster 38, Geneva 3

BEAVER FALLS, PA.

The Titans (4-6, 4-4 PAC) finished the season with a rout of the Tornados (3-7, 2-6) on the road. No other details were available at press time.
