Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A stolen car, likely set on fire on purpose, was destroyed and took a vacant house on Wallace Street with it.

Firefighters were called to 334 Wallace St., at 9:36 p.m. Friday to find the car in the driveway of the lower West Side house fully engulfed. The fire from the vehicle ignited 334 Wallace as well as 336 Wallace, another vacant property next door.

The vehicle, valued by fire officials at $2,000, was a total loss as was 334 Wallace, valued at $1,100 — less than the car, according to a fire report.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire at 336 Wallace after it caused some exterior damage. The damage to that house was estimated by the fire department at $500, with that house valued at $2,400.
