ASHTABULA

Authorities say a soap opera star’s blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle in Northeast Ohio last month.

“Days of Our Lives” actor Freddie Smith sustained minor injuries in the crash on Oct. 7 near Ashtabula. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the 26-year-old Smith failed to negotiate a curve and drove into a culvert, flipping the car.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed Smith’s blood-alcohol level was 0.093 at the time of the crash.

The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08. Passenger Alyssa Tabit of North Hollywood, Calif., suffered critical injuries in the crash, but she is recovering.

Patrol officials say the case has been transferred to the county prosecutor.
