Postal service returns wife's remains to Ohio man

COLUMBUS — A package containing an Ohio woman's cremated remains has been delivered to her family after they were lost in the mail.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the package was discovered early Friday morning at a processing facility in Michigan.

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service says the agency searched for the ashes throughout Ohio and neighboring states. The spokesman, David Van Allen, says the package was placed on a truck and sent directly to the family's home in Columbus.

Barbara Kirkendall died Nov. 5 at a Cleveland hospital. The 80-year-old woman's remains were supposed to be delivered to her husband but didn't arrive before her funeral services this week.

Family members say her husband plans to spend one last weekend with her before her burial next week in Dayton.
