Ohio kids, teachers affected by tear gas at school

COLUMBUS (AP) — Authorities say a teacher was taken to a hospital and 14 students were sent home after tear gas was deployed nearby during a training session for Columbus police cadets.

Police said the tear gas was set off this morning during training at the former site of a minor league baseball stadium. The gas drifted to Sullivant Elementary School just as students were arriving.

Parents were called to get the 14 children who reported irritation, and the teacher was hospitalized as a precaution.

Police said the 35 cadets were training in handling riots and were being sprayed with tear gas. The wind drifted it 3,000 feet from the area. Police are launching a full review of the incident.
