Off-duty firefighter dies when wall collapses

AVON LAKE, Ohio

Authorities in northern Ohio say an off-duty firefighter who was working a construction job was killed when a wall collapsed on him.

Police in Avon Lake, about 25 miles west of Cleveland, say Larry “Gomer” Heczko was killed instantly Thursday afternoon when the concrete block retaining wall collapsed on him at a construction site. His age wasn’t available.
