Canfield Speech and Debate team earns high recognition

Neighbors | Submitted.The Canfield Speech and Debate team competed at the Niles “T. Craig Bond Memorial Tournament” on Nov. 8. Mia Battaglia, a senior in Original Oratory, received the Brian Peteritis Memorial Trophy in recognition for being the top overall competitor at the tournament.

The Canfield Speech and Debate team competed at the Niles “T. Craig Bond Memorial Tournament” on Nov. 8. The Cardinals finished first place out of seventeen schools competing. It was the third tournament weekend of the season and the third consecutive weekend that Canfield earned first place standings.

Mia Battaglia, a senior in Original Oratory, received the Brian Peteritis Memorial Trophy in recognition for being the top overall competitor at the tournament. In total, Canfield had 26 students earn recognition for their performances.

Cardinals placing at the tournament were Michael Stefanick (second; drama), Kailey Love and Matt Myers (second; duo), Jordan Audia (second; expository speaking), Marissa Cashbaugh (sixth; expository speaking); Lennon Sackela (fourth; humor), Cameron Maras (second; international extemp), Alec Kan (third; international extemp), Cooper Johnson (fourth; international extemp), Alyssa Kerensky (second; Lincoln-Douglas debate), Jordan Evans-Kaplan (sixth; Lincoln-Douglas debate), Kate Hartshorn (fifth; oratorical interpretation), Kaci Carpenter (sixth; oratorical interpretation), Alexis Heldreth (sixth; original oratory), Jonathan Gant and Michael Factor (first; public forum debate), Stephen Gant and Maleck Saleh (second; public forum debate), Sam Ranttila and Jacob Tomory (fifth; public forum debate), Samantha Morris and Dominic DuPonty (sixth; public forum debate), Maria Stratis (fourth; student congress), Jonathan Palermo (fifth; student congress) and Carson Markley (first; United States extemp).
