POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 5

Theft: A Chianti Creek Drive man reported a credit card stolen.

Nov. 7

Theft/criminal damaging: Several vehicles in multiple township locations sustained damage. Items stolen included numerous gift and credit cards, cosmetics and a wallet.

Nov. 9

Menacing: A Hamilton Avenue woman said she had been threatened.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 7

Arrest: Robert S. Marino, 39, of Kirk Road, Austintown, was arrested at the Boardman Township Government Center on Market Street. He was wanted on an Austintown warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Assault: Authorities charged 29-year-old Jordan D. Lukanec of Ellsworth Road, Berlin Center, with assault and criminal damaging after a fight at Buffalo Wild Wings in Southern Park Mall in which a patron reported having been punched. Lukanec also was accused of picking up, tossing and damaging a table.

Aggravated menacing: A Meadowbrook Avenue man alleged his former wife called from Fairfax County, Va., and threatened to come to Ohio to kill the accuser and his family.

Arrest: Youngstown police relinquished custody of 46-year-old Mischelle L. Riley of Woodford Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant accusing her of violating a protection order. An East Parkside Drive woman alleged that Riley had driven past her residence and contacted her via a third party, in violation of the order.

Breaking and entering: At least two men in a white cargo van were seen on a surveillance camera trying to wrap a large chain around an automated-teller machine and remove it from a Speedway gas station, 649 E. Midlothian Blvd. When that failed, the men reportedly placed the chain in the van and fled east on Midlothian, a report stated.

Burglary: To a residence in the 10 block of Beechwood Drive through a window. A 30-inch TV was taken.

Counterfeit: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail took custody of 23-year-old Ashley M. Bowser of East Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, who faced a felony criminal-simulation charge related to an Oct. 20 situation in which a business check had been deposited into an ATM in the 3900 block of South Avenue. Two days later, $6,500 of the amount was withdrawn before it was discovered that the check was fake, a report said.

Theft: Aubrey A. Foose, 19, of East Florida Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of three cans of baby formula worth $142 from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A woman reported a $40 sweeper stolen while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Possible abuse: An employee with Easter Seals, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, told officers she suspected an 83-year-old patient has been abused. The possible victim was found with a large bruise on her lower back, a police report showed.

Theft: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 65-year-old Cynthia L. Williams to township police. Williams, of West Martin Street, East Palestine, was accused of stealing two DVDs Aug. 16, 2013, from Walmart.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 50 block of Southwoods Drive tossed eggs at an apartment’s sliding-glass door.

Theft: A man reportedly stole an undisclosed sum of money on four occasions from Dunkin’ Donuts, 748 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: Tabitha S. Lee, 26, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, along with a 17-year-old city girl, was charged with stealing $92 worth of merchandise, including a pair of women’s jeans, from Walmart. Lee also was wanted on a warrant.

Assault: Police responded to a fight on Beech Avenue, where they arrested 35-year-old Anthony V. Cerimeli of Indianola Road, Boardman, on charges of assault and criminal trespassing after his girlfriend alleged Cerimeli had struck her face and pulled her hair, resulting in swelling, a bloody nose and other injuries. Cerimeli also had been issued a criminal-trespassing warning, a report showed.

Attempted burglary: Someone pushed up a window to an apartment in the 5000 block of Aravesta Avenue in an effort to enter.

Burglary: Took place in the 4500 block of Grover Drive via a rear door. Stolen were a $400 laptop computer and a charger.

Possible theft: A township man discovered a waist bag was lost or stolen while he was in the 7600 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Theft: Logan A. Frye, 19, of Beaver, Pa., was charged, accused of stealing four cables and an electronic device from Walmart.

Theft: Latoya I. Butler of Kenmore Avenue, Warren, faced a theft charge. The 25-year-old Butler was accused of taking $100 worth of clothing from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: Weathersfield Township police handed Erik W. Weimer of Brookfield Avenue, Boardman, to township authorities. The 39-year-old Weimer was wanted on a domestic-violence charge related to a July 16, 2013, situation in which his stepfather alleged Weimer had threatened to break his neck.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road was found with a broken passenger-side taillight.

Criminal damaging: A West Boulevard man noticed damage to his car’s driver’s-side door trim.

Burglary: Occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Homestead Drive via a rear window. An Xbox console and related accessories, along with a Bluetooth speaker, were missing.

Possible theft: A West Boulevard man reported his wallet lost or stolen.

Theft: Officers booked 32-year-old Jason A. Bartholomew on charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after $111 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. Bartholomew, of Paddock Circle, Canfield, also had a knife with which to open packages, a report showed.

Theft/drugs: Elena V. Atyim, 20, of Shields Road, Boardman, faced charges of theft and possession of drug-abuse instruments after 15 cosmetics items were stolen from Walmart. Atyim, who also was wanted on a warrant, had a used syringe in her purse, police said.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Lake Park Road led to the arrest of 33-year-old Whitneay S. Trosky on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments after officers alleged Trosky, of McCloskey Road, New Waterford, had a spoon with burn marks and cotton, as well as several used needles, all common in drug use, a report stated. She also was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: A vehicle check in the 900 block of East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 37-year-old Ryan R. Davis of Signal Road, Columbiana, who was wanted on a theft warrant. He was accused of stealing $7 worth of deli meats from Walmart.

Nov. 9

Drugs: Police responded to a report of two people passed out in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle before charging 56-year-old Christine L. Rusu of Wolosyn, Boardman, with possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments after firefighters alleged having found two bags containing a needle, a razor blade and a cut straw, all typical items in drug use. Also taken into custody was 57-year-old Larry G. Rusu, same address, who was wanted on two drug-related charges.

Attempted fraud: A worker for Circle K, 7103 Lockwood Blvd., reported a caller tried to defraud the business of $1,796 via the use of money cards.

Domestic violence: James G. Pipoly, 60, of Tanglewood Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his son alleged Pipoly had threatened to stab him with a knife.

Fraud: An elderly Walnut Street woman reported a caller claiming to represent a company told the accuser that Armstrong Cable supposedly had informed him that the woman’s computer had a virus. Armstrong does not contact third-party persons regarding such matters, a police report said.

Identity theft: A Hitchcock Road man noticed five unauthorized charges totaling $194 on his debit-card statement.

Theft: Zachary D. Nickel, 25, of Sixth Street, Campbell, was charged with stealing a $57 package of headlights from Walmart.
