Playhouse presents 'Six Dance Lessons'

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse will present “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks,” a new comedy written by Richard Alfieri.

The play, directed by Terri A. Wilkes, will be presented in the theater’s intimate Moyer Room as part of the Griffith-Adler Actor Series. It opens Friday and runs through Nov. 22.

“Six Dance Lessons” is a thoughtful and charming two-character play that combines comedy and bittersweet drama.

It centers on Lily Harrison, a retired widow, who hires an acerbic dance instructor to give her private dance lessons in her Florida condo.

What begins as an awkward relationship soon develops into a friendship between two very different people. Antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister gives way to compatibility as they swing dance, tango, foxtrot and cha-cha while trading barbs and sharing intimacies.

Molly Galano plays Lily, and Bernie Appugliese plays the dance instructor, Michael Minetti. Karen and Stephanie Sarrach serve as production stage managers.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and also Nov. 20 and 21; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 22.
