The Warren Police Department Street Crimes Unit and the department’s Tactical Entry Team raided two homes Tuesday as part of a five-month drug investigation.
The raid on 1446 Atlantic St. NE near Bonnie Brae Avenue netted 30 grams of suspected heroin; five firearms, including two assault rifles; $1,000 in cash; ammunition and other suspected drug-related items.
Darrin S. Howell Jr., 21, of 1446 Atlantic, was taken into custody on drug charges and warrants out of Warren Municipal Court. He likely is to be arraigned today in that court. Other charges are possible, police said.
The Street Crimes Unit also executed a search warrant at 720 Woodbine Ave. SE, which is north of Youngstown Road, earlier in the day, finding 5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a gram of suspected heroin, prescription medication, a handgun and $800 in cash.
The suspected narcotics seized at both locations will be analyzed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Police said the two locations were related to each other. The investigation began as a result of numerous complaints about drug activity at both locations, police said.
