Men arrested after wire stripped in Warren

WARREN

Police charged two men with disrupting public services Tuesday afternoon after catching them trying to sell wires that one of them admitted having cut down off of telephone poles at the intersection of Front Street and Austin Avenue Southwest.

Police were called to the intersection at about 2 p.m. for two males cutting down wires and guide wires and loading them into a dark-colored PT Cruiser.

When officers got there, the men and wire were gone, but officers went to Atlas Recycling on Burton Street Southeast and located a dark PT Cruiser with one man unloading wire from the vehicle and the other stripping the plastic off of the wire beside the car.

The officer approached the men and asked them if they had just taken the wire from the Front Street/Austin Avenue area, and why they would do that.

One man said they “needed the money,” a police report says. They were both arrested and charged with disrupting public services.

Both are expected to be arraigned in Warren Municipal Court today.
