Clinical drug trial a first for Youngstown State
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State university announced this morning the award of a $70,000 grant to a professor and a Canfield doctor.
It’s the first such grant at YSU and the first time the university will play such a significant role in a clinical drug study.
The grant from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, a global company, will fund the study that will evaluate the effect of drug treatment on patients with chronic kidney disease, who have been on dialysis for less than five years.
“This grant, and the work that will be done on campus as a result, is yet another indicator of YSU’s continued evolution into a research university of growing prominence,” Martin Abraham, interim provost, said at a news conference this morning on campus to announce the grant and study.
