Austintown police add traffic enforcement devices

AUSTINTOWN

Township police have added to their radar equipment, Police Chief Robert Gavalier noted during this week’s trustees meeting.

He said they have a new speed trailer that was set up on Innwood Drive and currently sits on Idaho Road, right by one of the Austintown School District’s new digital signs.

The department also recently got a speed monitoring device that uses Bluetooth and doesn’t need to be on the side a road. “It will count how many cars that go by, the number of cars and the dates and times and the speed of the car,” Gavalier said. “It will give us a printout of cars going over the speed limit and what time, so it will help us a lot more with when we do enforcement.”

Gavalier and his department applied for grant money for traffic enforcement equipment after Mark Roberts, a resident of Norquest Boulevard, asked about speed enforcement on his street.

Trustees unanimously approved two demolitions — 479 Forest Hill Drive and 126 Idaho Road.

Trustees also approved a public hearing to take place after its next trustee meeting, set for 12:30 p.m. Nov. 25, regarding billboard signs in the township.
