Boxing fans are invited to attend Wednesday’s press conference at the MVR, which will promote “The Beginning,” a nine-bout boxing card that will be held on Nov. 29 at St. Lucy’s Banquet Center on 394 Tenney Avenue.
Southside Boxing Club fighter Alejandro “Popo” Salinas and six other boxers will make their professional debuts.

The Austintown Fitch playoff football game against Westerville Central will be held at Fawcett Stadium in Canton on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Fitch High School on Thursday at the South Circle Ticket Booth from 5-7:30 p.m and also Thursday and Friday during all lunches. Pre-sale tickets are also available at Aardvark and Select Sportswear through Friday at 1 p.m. All tickets are $8 pre-sale and $9 at the game.

This Saturday at 7 p.m Western Reserve will be playing the regional semi-final game against the Lucas Cubs at Orville High School. Playoff tickets will be on sale at the high school, middle school and elementary office Wednesday through Friday 7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold in the athletic office on Wednesday night from 4 p.m to 7 p.m, Thursday night from 5 p.m to 8 p.m, and Friday night from 4 p.m to 6 p.m.

Playoff tickets will be available for Friday’s game between Poland and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s at the Poland athletic department on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m to 2 p.m and Friday from 8 a.m to noon. Tickets can also be purchased at Trolios T-Shirts on Wednesday from 10 a.m to 5 p.m, Thursday from 10 a.m to 7 p.m and Friday from 10 a.m until noon. The game starts at 7:30 p.m at Uniontown Lake High School.
Martuccio earns academic all-district
Greenwood, Ind.
Girard graduate and Washington & Jefferson offensive lineman Brandon Martuccio was named to the Capital One academic all-district team. The sophomore has started all nine games at right tackle and has a 3.70 GPA. The Presidents are 9-0 and clinched the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Basketball tournament to benefit youth center

Registration is still available for the inaugural “Rebound for the ROC,” a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Nov. 22 to raise funds for The ROC of Salem Youth Center. The tournament will be held at Salem First Friends Church on Jennings Ave. beginning with games at 1 p.m. The winning team will receive four tickets to the Nov. 24 Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Orlando Magic. The tournament will be double elimination and teams will include four players each. There will be no age divisions. Games will last 20 minutes. Cost is $20 per player ($80 per team). Standohar earns first team all-NEO
Girard’s Mark Standohar was awarded first team all-NEO golf honors by the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association for the second consecutive year. Standohar has been all-AAC (All-American Conference) first team three times, two-time district qualifer and was AAC player of the year in 2013.
