Man sues company over hand injury

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who said his left hand and fingers were seriously injured as he drained an air compressor, from which he said a safety guard was missing, has sued Iron City Wood Products Inc., of Albert Street, where he was employed when he was injured on Nov. 15, 2012.

The lawsuit was filed last week by David Freeman and his wife, Carol, of Parkhill Drive, in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, demanding a jury trial and damages exceeding $25,000.

Freeman said he suffered crushing and amputation injuries to his fingers and open wounds and muscle and nerve injuries to his left hand and fingers.

The missing guard was designed to prevent employees from being injured by the compressor’s moving parts, including belts, pulleys and flywheels, the complaint said.

Company officials could not be reached to comment.
