Police arrested two people on felony drug charges in separate traffic stops.
David Harmon, 33, of Columbiana, was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin after he was stopped at West Federal Street and Andrews Avenue about 3:55 p.m. Sunday for making an illegal turn.
Reports said Harmon told the officer he was on his way to Niles to get his car fixed and he had nothing illegal in the car, but when asked if he had anything on his person he said “no” while jamming his hands in his pockets.
An officer reached inside his pockets and found two packets of suspected heroin, reports said. His car was searched, and some loose suspected heroin was found on the center console and a partial packet of suspected heroin also was found inside, along with a box of suboxone strips.
Harmon was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
About 6:15 p.m. Sunday on the West Side, police approached a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Alexis Marcoe of Poland, that was blocking traffic at Salt Springs Road and Elberen Avenue. Reports said Marcoe told police she had just left her job at a South Side bar and was on her way home to Poland, but first she needed to pick up a friend.
When asked if she had anything illegal, reports said Marcoe told police she did not but she was moving things around in her purse. Reports said she gave police permission to search her purse, and they found a bag of suspected cocaine and a bag of suspected heroin in her wallet.
Also in her purse was a box of suboxone strips and $289, reports said.
Marcoe was also taken to the jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of cocaine.
