Central Ohio authorities investigate body found in burning car

CARDINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities are investigating after finding a body in a burning car in a wooded area of central Ohio.

Morrow County’s sheriff says his deputies and the Cardington Fire Department found the burning car Monday night after a 911 caller reported a vehicle fire around 9 p.m.

Sheriff Steve Brenneman said in a statement that the body was found in the driver’s seat after the fire was extinguished in the area near Cardington. The body was burned so badly that authorities couldn’t immediately determine the identity or whether it was a man or a woman. The Franklin County coroner’s office is working to determine the cause of death.

Firefighters said the car was destroyed.

The state fire marshal’s office and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting in the investigation.
