First horses arrive at racino in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN
The first horses began to arrive today at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, two weeks ahead of the first day of racing.
Hollywood Gaming’s racing secretary, Ed Vomacka, said all 988 stalls at the racino have been allocated to trainers. While some of those have been withdrawn, there is a backlog of trainers seeking to get a stall at Hollywood Gaming, Vomacka added.
He previously served as the racing secretary at Beulah Park, whose track license was moved here by parent company Penn National Gaming Inc. Trucks with horse trailers were parked in-between barns as hay, supplies and horses made their way into the new 10-foot-by-11-foot homes. Vomacka said that Monday’s arrivals were primarily from racetracks in Cincinnati and Detroit.
Hollywood Gaming will host eight races a day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays starting Nov. 24 for a 100-day race season.
