Longtime official ready to retire
Fanfare:
The time has come for me to hang up my whistle.
Mother Nature (age/health) has finally caught up with me. It’s time to move on. I have had a great run for the last 30-plus years.
I was fortunate to have officiated football (28 years) and basketball (34 years) both scholastically and collegiately and I worked 20 years of college football and 15 years of college basketball.
I would like to say thank you to the players, the coaches, the administrators, my fellow officials and all the fans for all their great support and encouragement.
It’s a bittersweet moment, it’s like saying goodbye to a dear old friend. But it’s time to move on and write a new chapter in my life.
I will forever cherish the memories and the friendships I have developed through officiating. As many of you know, I suffered a major stroke a year and a half ago. One of my goals was to get back on the football field and officiate one more year. I was able to accomplish that. As a result I will forever remember this special year.
As a former athlete and a fierce competitor I am unable to accept mediocrity in my officiating. Therefore, I know it’s time.
God bless and thank you for the wonderful opportunities and memories.
Officially,
Brian T. Meenachan
Boardman
