Youngstown police and the Mahoning County coroner are investigating the cause of death for a person found in a field behind the federal courthouse on East Commerce Street. According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, police responded to a call about a body in the area behind the courthouse Saturday morning. Police told WFMJ they believe the victim was homeless and there were empty beer cans near the body. The Mahoning County coroner has not determined a cause of death.
Window break-in

Police said a burglary occurred at an apartment on Southern Boulevard at 11:42 a.m. Saturday. They believe the intruder(s) got in through a bedroom window, which was damaged, and left through a back door, which was left open. The victim reported a 60-inch flatscreen TV, two videogames and two videogame controllers had been taken. Police advised the victim to talk to the city detectives Monday.
Drug charge

Police arrested Bryan Brown, 43, of Youngstown at 2:13 a.m. Saturday on a charge of drug possession. Police stopped Brown at Market Street and Woodland Avenue after he nearly struck a curb with his vehicle. Police found 1 ounce of suspected marijuana in a plastic bag in his vehicle. Brown was released at the scene and ordered to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 18.
Home invasion

Police responded to a burglary at 5:22 p.m. Saturday at a Park Hill home. The victim said two large men knocked on his door and forced their way into the home when he didn’t answer the door. They stole his flat-screen TV and stereo, he said. The victim said he saw a female drive the two men away in a gray 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. The vehicle was headed northbound on Glenwood Avenue, he said. He said he was not familiar with the suspects.
Double hit-and-run

Police tried to track a suspect in a hit-skip crash Saturday night on Mahoning Avenue near utility line construction. According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the suspect sped away from the scene at 8:30 p.m. after an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper turned around near him. The trooper alerted Youngstown police. WFMJ reported that the suspect traveled down Mahoning Avenue and crashed into another vehicle, then put his car in a ditch outside the entrance to Mill Creek MetroParks near the Interstate 680 ramp and fled on foot into the park. A passenger in the other vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries.
