A Salem man is in the Mahoning County jail on $50,000 bond after Youngstown State University police said he attacked his roommate Tuesday morning.
Eric Collins, 18, was arraigned in municipal court Friday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on charges of felonious assault and criminal damaging.
According to jail records, he was taken into custody Thursday.
A university police report said officers were called to a parking lot at the Cafaro House dorms on Madison Avenue about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.
A woman and a man, who said he was Collins’ roommate, said they were in a car talking about Collins, and the man said he texted Collins and told him where they were and what they were talking about.
Collins arrived a short time later, and when he did, he was carrying a knife and a golf club, reports said. Reports said Collins hit the man with the golf club and the two struggled before falling to the ground. Collins then stabbed the man on the finger with the knife and drove away, reports said.
The stab wound was minor, and the man refused treatment, reports said.
Reports were not clear on whether Collins and the man were students or if the woman was a student.
As part of his bond, should Collins post it, he is barred from having any contact with the man and woman.
